Goodchild Trophy
The Goodchild Trophy was named after the donor ‘Daddy Goodchild’. This affectionate nickname was given to the owner of the Smithfield Poultry Trader, who had a strong interest in the farming and production of Christmas turkeys.
In 1961 he donated a trophy, to be awarded to the person for ‘exceptional services to the farmer/butcher’ trade.
Early ATA winners were Derek Kelly in 1979, Tim Denham Smith in 1980, and Tony Burlton in 1984. In 1986 the ATA were honoured with the offer from the Turkey Federation to be responsible for selecting the ‘Turkey person of the year’.
The trophy is awarded each year at the ATA Annual Banquet and Show which takes place in November.
